William (Bill) Skelton is a shareholder with the firm of Skelton Taintor & Abbott in Lewiston, Maine, practicing primarily in the areas of:

In 2019, Bill returned to Skelton Taintor & Abbott, the firm established by his great-grandfather in 1893 as the Skelton Law Office. While he had worked at the family firm after graduating from Franklin Pierce Law Center, he has spent the past 20 years concentrating his practice in title law. He is happy to return to private practice and to the firm as the fourth generation of Skelton attorneys serving clients in Lewiston Auburn.
From 2000-2017, Bill was the legal counsel for Androscoggin Title Company, where he represented buyers, sellers and lenders in all aspects of residential and commercial conveyancing and lending. He also worked for two years for Fidelity National Title Group in Portland as Vice President and Alternate State Counsel for the State of Maine. In that role he communicated with agents of Chicago Title Insurance Company, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company and Fidelity National Title Insurance Company throughout Maine and New Hampshire concerning the insurability of residential and commercial real estate transactions and on compliance with state and federal regulations.
Real Estate and Title Matters. He has a wealth of experience in real estate and title related matters. Bill represents buyers, sellers and lenders in commercial and residential real estate transactions. He also handles title insurance matters, commercial loan documentation, foreclosures and workout transactions.
Elder Law. In the area of Elder Law, Bill protects the rights and benefits of seniors, working closely with his clients and their family members. His knowledge and compassion guides clients and their families in very important decisions involving wills, trusts and estates and proactive long-term care planning. Bill is a member of Elder Counsel, a national organization of elder law and special needs planning attorneys.
Corporate & Business. Bill’s business practice is focused on representing clients in all aspects of their businesses, including formation, financing, leasing, land use matters, and overall operational issues.
He is admitted to practice in all of Maine’s state and federal courts. Bill is a member of the American, Maine State and Androscoggin County Bar Associations. He received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Maine in Orono, and his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire. During law school, he served as a teaching assistant in real property law, mediation and conflict resolution. Bill is recognized by Best Lawyers® for his work in corporate law and real estate law.
In his free time, Bill enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. Bill is an avid sailor (having completed an Atlantic crossing a few years ago) and serves as Commodore of the Taylor Pond Yacht Club and a member of the Ocean Cruising Club. He is a member of the National Ski Patrol Association and actively patrols for the Lost Valley Ski Area. Bill is a Hebron Academy alumnus, gentleman farmer and a lifelong resident of Auburn.
