Our Commitment to Community

At Skelton Taintor & Abbott, we care deeply about the communities where we live and work. We are part of a civic-minded and charitable tradition that extends back 160 years, and we are proud to contribute to the arts, education, economy and health of central and coastal Maine.

STA attorneys currently support:

  • Androscoggin County Bar Association
By serving as officers of the Association and actively promoting the vibrant talent of the local legal community, STA attorneys are leaders of the local bar.
  • Auburn Business Association
STA sponsors the Auburn Business Association’s Citizen of the Year event, its annual golf tournament and funds for the holiday decorations in downtown Auburn. Our attorneys have served in various roles on the board of ABA.
  • Auburn Business Development Corporation
Throughout the years, many of our attorneys have served on the Board of Directors of this organization that promotes job creation by stimulating Commercial and Industrial Development in the city of Auburn, Maine.
  • Auburn-Lewiston Rotary
STA attorneys support the mission of the rotary, which is service in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.
  • The Building Materials Exchange
STA understands the value of home ownership and the benefit of home maintenance and repairs. Through volunteer efforts, our attorneys support this non-profit organization’s goal to offer re-usable, environment friendly building materials at an affordable price.
  • Chamber of Commerce
As a long-term stalwart supporter of our local Chamber, the largest in the state of Maine, several STA attorneys have served on the Board of Directors. Additionally, many have presented programs for local businesses on key legal topics. STA regularly sponsors Chamber events and was a founding sponsor of the Chamber Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament, which raised over half a million dollars in scholarship funds for local students.
  • CM Education Foundation
Continuing our support for public education, STA contributes annually to the CM Education Foundation to fund scholarships for students attending Central Maine Community College. Our attorneys have served on the Foundation’s board of directors and sponsor its annual dinner and scholarship golf tournament.
  • Community Little Theatre
In an effort to provide education and personal exposure to the art of entertainment in the form of both musicals and non-musical productions; STA is proud to support Maine’s “biggest little theatre”. Our attorneys and staff have been performers, have worked backstage in lighting and design, and have served on the Board of CLT.
  • The Dempsey Challenge
STA employees volunteer in support of this bike and road race to support cancer treatment at the Dempsey Center.
  • Maine High School Mock Trial Competition
We support the attorneys of tomorrow by coaching a team for this statewide competition and by funding an annual scholarship award to a senior member of the Lewiston High School mock trial team.
  • Maine State Bar Association
STA attorneys aren’t just members of the Association—they serve in governance and leadership roles, and are section chairs and presenters at MSBA seminars.
  • Public Service in Our Communities
Our attorneys even dedicate their “off” time to serving their communities.  Some are appointed to local government boards, including local boards of assessment review. Other attorneys serve on local school boards and other civic organizations.
  • School Athletics
We have attorneys who take on multiple roles assisting school athletics, including coaching teams even when their own kids have graduated and working on booster groups.
  • United Way
STA attorneys have held numerous roles with this community centered nonprofit including Chairman of the Board, Poster Model for the first “Live United” campaign and acting as Cabinet Members. In addition to participating in the United Way Day of Caring volunteer event, STA donates an iPad annually to the United Way Incentive Campaign.
